J. Ryan Conner, MD

 

Dr. Conner comes to us from South Alabama area where he grew up outside of Mobile in Daphne, Alabama.  He attended Newnan High School in Newnan, Georgia outside of Atlanta.  His family is from Camden and Eufaula, Alabama.  He attended Auburn University for Undergraduate Degree in Microbiology with a Premedicine Concentration where he graduated Cum Laude.

 

At Auburn, he served as a leader in his fraternity, Phi Kappa Tau and was able to serve in numerous philantrophy organized activities. It was at Auburn that Dr. Conner meet his lovely wife Lauren, a Florence, Alabama native, while participating in a philantrophy activity.

 

After completing his undergraduate education, he attended Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon Georgia.  It was there in medical school that he fell in love with the art of general surgery.  Working with mentors in general surgery in Dr. Pannell and Culpepper in the rural areas of Georgia, he found the true examples of compassion and care that general surgery offers.  There he achieved high marks and was awarded the Outstanding Surgical Student Award.

 

Dr. Conner then went on to finish his residency education in Birmingham, Alabama at the Baptist Health System program in general surgery.  There in Birmingham, Dr. Conner served as a Chief Resident for the Surgery program and recieved highest honors for the program in receiving the "Hugh Linder Award" for outstanding surgical resident.

 

Dr. Conner and his wife Lauren now make Tuscumbia, Alabama home and are parents to three wonderful children and are active members of the Tuscumbia Church of Christ.  He joined our practice after residency in July of 2013.

 

He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.  He maintains an active license to practice medicine in the state of Alabama by the State of Alabama Medical Licensure Commission.  He is also an Active member in the American College of Surgeons where he is an active fellow member.  In addition he maintains a role in Helen Keller Board of Advisors, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and the Southeastern Surgical Society.

 

His interests include endoscopic procedures, colorectal cancer screening and prevention, breast cancer screening, treatment, and prevention, minimally invasive surgical procedures including laparoscopy for colorectal and antireflux surgery.

 

His hobbies and interests outside of work include turkey hunting, lake fishing, hiking, and Auburn football.
